A strop is used for the final stage of sharpening a knife blade.  These are made from a wooden base which has a leather section attached on both sides, one side with the smooth grain side facing outwards, and one side with the slightly rougher flesh side showing.

A strop can be used with valve grinding paste (carborundum paste) or with jeweller's rouge to provide the abrasion needed to bring a keen edge to your blade.

This is the smaller of two sizes, with a leather area measuring 40 x 140mm, and an overall length of 275mm.
